Here's some surfing tips from Big Red:

- NEVER EVER SURF ALONE.

- Only surf if you can swim.

- Check with local people or lifeguards for any potential danger.

- Get proper instruction from qualified or experienced people.

- Only surf waves of a size and power suitable to your ability.

- Do not get too confident.

- Make sure your equipment especially your leash is in good order.

- Learn to observe the ocean so you can identify rips, wind changes and other hazards.

- Keep an eye on a spot on the shore to make sure you dont drift too far.

- Paddle around the wave breaking area not through it you are less likely to be in a collision.

- If you have to paddle out throught the breaking waves, do not paddle out behind a surfer waiting for a wave.

- When paddling out always check behind you before abandoning a board.

- Always be concious of other water users.

- Consider wearing a water helmet, especially near rocks.

- When you "wipe out" cover your head with your hands.

- Do not come to the surface too soon and keep your hands around your head as you emerge.

- If you get caught in a rip do not paddle against it, paddle across it.

- If you get into difficulty stay with your board.

- Never drop in on a surfer already on the wave.

- Before you enter the water, take time to consider safety.
